Sports are one of my favorites hobbies. Since I was a kid basketball has
been my favorite sport, but I also love football (soccer), tennis and a
bunch of other sports.
Ever since I can remember I have been a fan of Espanyol in football and
Joventut in basketball. I still follow these teams and I don't love it
when Barça (our rival) wins, but with age my fandom tends to be more
focused on particular players or teams that I admire because of their
current style of play, independently of their team colours. Of course I
admire Tamudo, but that doesn't mean I can't enjoy a good save by
Casillas or an amazing pass by Iniesta. And I liked how Villarreal
played the most enjoyable football in the 2007-2008 season.
Basketball
My favorite sport. Right from when I started playing as a kid in the
countryside house where we enjoyed our summer holidays, later on playing
in the EIE Les Corts team, and I even got to briefly coach a kids team
in the Joventut Les Corts club. Nowadays I play once a week and my
interest is strong as ever.
Lately I have been following the NBA with renewed interest, but I
identify more with the European style of basketball. So the players I've
admired most are not the NBA legends even thought I also do (Jordan,
Bird, etc...) but the great european legends like Petrovic, Kukoc,
Gallis, Sabonis. Nowadays I like Papaloukas who has dominated recently
in the Euroleague, also Calderón and the spanish national time, and in
the NBA I love the crazy style of Nash's Suns.
Football (soccer)
I've always followed it as a fan, but I didn't begin playing until late.
Currently I play football a couple times a week, in a football-7 team
and also indoor football, and I do enjoy it a lot. As a fan I have
season tickets for Espanyol and I deeply follow the spanish league, I
even play in a couple fantasy leagues like the Lliga Les Corts and the Superlliga.
Tennis
Another sport I discovered too late. For the last three or four years I
have been playing often with a friend, José Luis, with whom we use to
play quite some good matches because our skill level is very similar.
There are few sports moments that I enjoy as much as playing a good
tennis match against the right opponent who pushes you to the limit. As
for following professional tennis, I've been lucky enough to enjoy the
Nadal-Federer era so there's no need to add more.
American Football
This is a sport I have never even tried to play in my lifetime, but
still it's one I follow with passion. Its complexity can make it
daunting at the beginning, but once you know the rules it's exactly that
complexity which makes for a very rich sport tactically, so that
intelligence and coaching decisions also play a big role, not everything
is raw power. The 2008 Superbowl where the Giants defeated the unbeaten
Patriots (18-0) against all odds is one of the greatest matches I have
ever seen in any sport.
